There existed a time when there were no interconnecting roads between the two lakes, Tsomoriri and Pangong Tso. In that era, people need to travel back to the Leh town when returning from Pangong lake. The newer route which connects Pangong to Tsomoriri, goes through an area called Changthang. This is a remote territory lacking mobile networks, gas stations, accommodation, and fooding. You would hardly find a road in this area and it is quite challenging to go through this route. Nubra to Pangong via Shyok river
Traveling from Nubra to Pangong Via Shyok river is quite a journey. Agham Shyok road didn’t existed in the past and people used to travel from Nubra valley to Leh and then to Pangong, the very next day. A newer route was created which stretched along the Shyok river. It certainly saved bigger proportions of traveling time. But, it was definitely not an easy one.
After crossing through the Khalsar village, and moving towards Agham village, you will be leaving the route of Khardung la. You will meet one bifurcated road after reaching Agham, one will take you through Wari la and the other one towards Shyok village. You need to take the latter one. This route runs along the Shyok river and is quite dangerous as dwelled on high altitude. You may even have to cross or drive through the road as well. You will find various sand dunes along the route as well.
Tsomoriri to Sarchu
You need to cross Tsokar and Pang while traveling from Tsomoriri to Sarchu. Starting your journey from Tsomoriri lake towards Sarchu, you will stop for your first break at Sumdo you move ahead to your destination, Tsokar lake. village before you touch the Tsokar lake. You will also cross Moore Plains after Tsokar lake. It is quite an ecstatic landscape and you would truly enjoy it. As you will move towards Pang, you will also come across Baralacha la(16600 ft). You need to meet Kangla Jal cross after your Pang stay. Stay extra alert as you may find some smooth and slippery pebbles on the way. After climbing Nakeela(another high pass) and Lachlung la pass, and crossing 21 Gata Loops, you will positively hit the location of Sarchu, your most awaited destination. You will find the place to be extremely cold and windy, so be prepared to face the torrid weather conditions.
Kargil to Zanskar
Kargil and Zanskar valley are connected through road. Although Zanskar is one of the remote corners of Ladakh, still you will enjoy the journey. You need to travel to Padum from Kargil which is a distance of 250 km. From Padum road, you will make your road journey towards the remote Zanskar valley. On your way, as the Kargil highway starts, you will get a breathtaking touch access to the glacier. It is altogether quite a different experience in itself.
